Our program of activities aims to get the children outdoors as often as possible to learn new skills, to challenge themselves and to have fun. Participation, rather than meeting set standards, is our key approach and we encourage children to join in and ‘have a go’ at something new, in a supportive environment. During their time with us we are keen for beavers to start to learn important, but age-appropriate, life skills, from tying their shoelaces and cooking simple dishes, to basic first aid, water and fire safety, and how to contact the emergency services.

We also give children the opportunity to stay away overnight, be it at larger Group camps, smaller Beaver-only camps or simply a sleepover at the Scout hut. For many children this is their first experience of being away from home without their parents or extended family but despite some initial wobbles, they inevitably have a great time away with their friends and truly rise to the challenge!

During their time at Beavers we really see the children start to mature and develop in confidence and when they eventually leave us at around 8 years old, they are ready for the next stage of their Scouting adventure!
