As Covid struck we closed down our weekly face to face scouting meetings in March 2020 and quickly moved on line. It was an uncertain and frightening time for many of our young people and we wanted them to stay connected and have a degree of normality.

All of our sections have facebook groups and so we could move online quickly, setting tasks and activities for our young people allowing parents to post back images of what everyone had achieved. The older sections used zoom too. Here is a flavour of what some of our young people did prior to the summer holidays.

Our Beaver colonies set the Beavers personal challenges, made bug houses, completed the gardeners activity badge and even went indoor camping.

The Cubs attended the virtual camp pow wow, did lots of cooking, had quite a few zoom meetings, played online team games, and took part in the Cubs challenge.

Aztec Scouts continued with weekly zoom meetings covering lots of games and challenges, technical scouting skills, survival techniques, Scout led sessions and many scouts completed the artist badge, showing their artwork off each week. Inca Scouts too used Zoom for monthly meetings, did some home cooking and pioneering and even linked up with a scout group in the USA to complete the international badge.

8th Worcester carried on the sprit of Scouting throughout 2020 supporting our young people.

Look up your local Scout Group, because you’ve got a safe, practical community who will encourage and support you.'
