How you can get involved

If you think you could probably help then you definitely can. It could be the most rewarding two hours your will spend in the week.

Childhood doesn’t last forever. Lets make it count.

We have space for new volunteers and it would be great if you could join us.  If you can spare some time why not come along? We have a team in place so there’s no feeling of obligation and we will ease you in gently in whatever way you would like to help. Young people are amazing, spontaneous, fun, and as each has their own different personality they are energising to be around. It is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable ways to volunteer there is in Worcester and we will teach you all the skills you need.

There are as many types of volunteers as there are people;  those that love the outdoors and those that don’t, and those who have the skills to help behind the scenes rather than helping directly with the young people. You don’t need to have been a Scout or Guide when you were young and we really are a fun flexible bunch.

What next?

It can be hard to put yourself forward when you don’t know what you are getting yourself into. You are welcome to take the 4 week test. Just come along for 4 weeks with no obligation and see if you like it. Just contact us via this website

It’s all up to you (1, 2, or 3)

1. Group Helpers & Trustees – Perhaps you would like to help us run the whole group? You could help with a committee role in fundraising, maintenance, or our administration. Perhaps you have skills or a trade. We run regular maintenance events if you would like to join us. We also have a list of parents and helpers with trades that can help us out from time to time.

2. Occasional Parent Helpers – Your help from time to time when you can. Perhaps you could cook sausages at an event, help with our grounds on a working  afternoon, come in and help young people with a topic you know well, or just join in your child’s regular meeting every now and again.

3. Section Team Members and Team Leaders– If you would like to volunteer directly with our Young people in a section then this is definitely the role for you. We offer highly flexible volunteering and we are appreciative of the time you can offer. You join as a member of a section team and then complete our foundation training and you are good to go. Its then up to you how far you want to go. Stay as a team member or perhaps in the future you could become a Team Leader (or share that role) and complete our free Leader training with modules delivered online, also at fun training weekends, and in the evenings. This leads to a recognised management qualification that could help you at work too.

Hear how Scouts really value their Leaders – and the difference you could make

Depending on the role our volunteers will require a DBS background check and certain roles will require a formal vetting procedure.

And Finally – If you have time, and want to find out about Scouting in more detail, then this 30 min documentary from Bear Grylls, our former Chief Scout, says it all.
